Madrid dance producer Pional is gearing up to drop his latest full-length When Love Hurts at the end of the month. An early taste of the album comes with the Empress Of-assisted single “The Way That You Like.” Pional slowly adds intricate, booming drums as he layers a bevy of warped, rhythmic synths that zoom and collide around Empress Of’s floating vocal. She sings of a love that may not be best for her, but she can’t seem to stay away. Lines like “You’re too close to perfect/ And you know that there’s a purpose/ To every moment/ I’m with you again” hint at her inability to break away, and when her feelings are at their most overwhelming, the beat builds to a palpable crescendo for an infectious hook.
