Kanye West Signs Tyga & Migos To G.O.O.D. Music

Yesterday, Pusha T announced a surprise last-minute show at New York’s Highline Ballroom. You will not be surprised to learn that the show, which featured a ton of other G.O.O.D. Music acts, turned into a surprise Kanye West performance. You might, however, be surprised to learn that Kanye introduced two new acts to the G.O.O.D. Music roster. One of them was the Atlanta trio Migos, which makes sense. Migos might not be the viral sensations that they were a few years ago, but they are an endlessly talented rap group, and they have the same sort of fashion-forward aesthetic as West himself. But the other new act is a bit more of a head-scratcher. Tyga is a G.O.O.D. Music artist now.

Tyga is, of course, dating Kylie Jenner, which almost makes him an extended Kardashian family member, just like Kanye. But Tyga has also been a rap punchline for years, and he’s burned all his bridges at Young Money, where he was lucky to have ever had a spot on the roster. He can’t rap very well. He hasn’t had a hit in an eternity. He gives off an air of transcendent skeeziness. West executive produced his album The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty, and it still managed to be a massive flop. You almost have to respect the guy’s ability to land on his feet again and again, no matter what stupid bullshit he pulls.

Here’s video of West making the announcement:

And here’s video of Tyga performing a new song with Desiigner:

Meanwhile, Pusha T performed Clipse’s “Mr. Me Too” with Pharrell:

And Kanye, who sadly did not convert the Highline Ballroom stage into a moving platform, did “Famous” with live ad-libs from Swizz Beatz:

West and Desiigner also did the “Tiimy Turner” remix live:

And Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert did a live recreation of West’s “Fade” video:

It’s kind of fun to see Kanye in more of a regular rap-show setting, rapping in a club with hangers-on all over the stage. I wish he’d do that more often.

UPDATE: Here’s Tyga’s G.O.O.D. Music debut, “Gucci Snakes” featuring labelmate Desiigner.
