Amazon Music will release a pair of playlists entitled Love Me and Love Me Not in time for Valentine’s Day, which will include 70 original songs and some covers. The two collections featuring new music by the likes of Hurray For The Riff Raff, Okkervil River, Ingrid Michaelson, and many others. Today, we’re premiering contributions from both Joyce Manor and Tacocat; the former covered the Lemonheads’ “Into Your Arms” (which was originally written by Robyn St. Clare of The Hummingbirds), and the latter opted for Dolly Parton’s “Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That.”

Joyce Manor’s interpretation of “Into Your Arms” is a bit sturdier than the original, but still manages to sound just as daydreamy. It’s rare to hear lead vocalist Barry Johnson this romantically dazed, but it’s a nice change for him, especially coupled with the steady thump of Jeff Enzor’s enveloping drums and those gnashing guitars that sound remarkably like sunshine. It’s all a far cry from the blunt urgency of the band’s early records, but “Into Your Arms” wouldn’t necessarily sound out of place on last year’s excellent Cody. For all the lucky ones in love out there looking to bathe in a song that mirrors how you feel about your relationship, listen below.

… But for those of us grounded in heartbreak, check out instead Tacocat’s take on what the band calls “the greatest breakup song ever written.” The Seattle punks stay remarkably true to the original’s country identity, but bolster it with crunchy guitars and a thicker pulse. The country western riffs and swinging stomp only enhance the best elements of Tacocat’s brash, catchy sound, and it’s the band’s same garage-rock immediacy that pushes the best elements of their source material to the forefront. It’s a welcome change of pace regardless of how you choose to look at it. Listen below.

Both playlists will be available for streaming exclusively on Amazon Music beginning 2/3. Check out Joyce Manor and Tacocat’s upcoming tour dates below.
