Open City is a new Philadelphia hardcore band with a very serious pedigree. Frontwoman Rachel Rubino has spent time in bands like Worriers and Bridge & Tunnel, while guitarist Dan Yemin is a hardcore lifer who’s played in vastly important bands like Lifetime and Kid Dynamite. Yemin’s old Paint It Black bandmate Andy Nelson, also of Ceremony, plays bass, and former Ted Leo & The Pharmacists member Chris Wilson plays drums. Together, they play a feverish and intense form of hardcore that still finds plenty of room for melody. Their self-titled debut album, which just arrived out of nowhere, is an absolute face-wrecker, and you can stream it below.
