The Weeknd Unveils H&M Line: “Bomber Jackets Are Smart, But They Are Also Street”

Now that the Weeknd is officially a superstar — continuing to hold down the #1 album in the country with last year’s Starboy — it’s about time he got his own fashion line. Abel Tesfaye has completed an upcoming 25-piece collection in collaboration with H&M. A bomber jacket is the capsule wardrobe’s signature item, as Tesfaye explains via Billboard:

For my generation, the bomber jacket is like a replacement for the suit jacket. It’s a piece that men wear every day, and it’s something that I would wear for any occasion, whether it’s on the street or going to an awards ceremony. For me, bomber jackets are smart, but they are also street and have a lot of attitude.

He goes on to discuss the relationship between music and clothing, specifically how “the effect of music on fashion has been immense, especially hip-hop and urban music.” Andreas Löwenstam, H&M’s head of menswear design, shared his own experience working on the collection as well, suggesting that the Weeknd’s “effortless style” is how people should think about menswear in 2017. He also lightly brags that members of his design team were the first to hear “Starboy,” since Tesfaye had just completed the song prior to attending their meeting.
