Annie Hardy – “Want”

Asia Whitney

Annie Hardy, frontwoman of early ’00s indie-rock royalty Giant Drag, is returning to music. Her upcoming solo debut Rules is the devastating product of two tragedies, the death of her newborn son in March 2015 and the death of his father less than a year later. We’ve heard one song already, the idiosyncratic “Go Hey Ruku Sake,” and now she’s officially announced the album and shared its lead single. “Want” is a plaintive folk-rock song flecked with organ, featuring Don Bolles of the Germs on drums and Stephen McBean of Black Mountain on guitar. “I want my baby back/ what else can I do/ I want my baby back/ If I can’t have him, I don’t want you,” Hardy wails.
