Watch A Teaser For The National’s New Album

For what feels like forever, the National have been working on a new album, their follow-up to 2013’s Trouble Will Find Me. (Our own Ryan Leas spent a long time with the band to write a feature about their recording sessions, and that feature ran way back in 2015.) But things are moving now. As is the custom with big bands these days, the National have shared an enigmatic teaser that includes a few seconds of new music.

This time around, the music sounds moody and experimental, with skronky guitars that almost sound like Morse code. The video shows a house, in black-and-white, with a news scroller on the bottom that reads “Sleep Well Beast” and “the system dreams only in total darkness.” Here it is:

The National debuted a new song called “Turtleneck” onstage back in January. And according to some fans on Reddit who have been doing detective work, we should get a new song, and some tour dates, by the end of the week.
