Every summer since 2010, the people at Adult Swim have been offering up a new free-download song every week as part of their Adult Swim Singles program. That program is coming back today, but this time, things are different. Instead of a new song every week for the summer, we’ll be getting a new song every week for the entire year. They’re also getting rid of the MP3-download component; the Singles series is now streaming-only.
Talking to the Verge, Adult Swim creative director Jason DeMarco says that they’re doing it this way this year “just to see if we could”:
We’re doing something no one else does. I don’t know why they don’t do it. Maybe they don’t want to, or maybe no one is motivated enough to do it. But it’s been seven years, no one else is doing it, and I get the feeling that no one else is going to.
This year, the series will include music from people like Migos, Julian Casablancas + The Voidz, Brian Eno, DOOM with Jay Electronica, Zola Jesus, Wavves, Thundercat, Sleep, Shabazz Palaces, Pallbearer, and regular contributors Run The Jewels and Flying Lotus. Below, you can see the full lineup of contributors, and you can also hear the first single in this year’s series. It’s “Pose To,” a new track from the veteran Atlanta rap producer, and it’s got appearances from Chicago speed-rap king Twista, Atlanta chirper Yung LA, and the late Bankroll Fresh.
And here’s the full list of contributors for the year, in alphabetical rather than chronological order:
