Just in time for the holiday season, corporate powerhouse Amazon has curated a Christmas playlist of soul music, fittingly titled “Christmas Soul.” It features a new contribution from Open Mike Eagle, who rapped one of our favorite verses last year and released one of this year’s most acclaimed hip-hop albums in Brick Body Kids Still Daydream. Accompanied by a beat track, low vibrating synth, and vibraphone tones that I’ll take over sleigh bells any day, Mike gets us out of our holiday music monotony on “Snowsuit.” Billed as “a Christmas song for those who don’t celebrate Christmas,” the song goes down the slippery slope of what a marshmallow actually is and causes us to recall our own foolish youth when we thought we didn’t need to wear gloves until our fingers turned purple. And, like a present, it’s wrapped up in one nice hook. Listen below.
