Back in 2015, before she released her debut album, Welsh electronic musician Kelly Lee Owens released a great cover of Aaliyah’s “More Than A Woman.” Today, the recent Best New Band honoree has announced that the cover will be released on a 12″ later this year, and on the flip side she’s including a remix of her own cover that turns the elegant strings of the original into a throbbing house wiggle. Here’s what Owens had to say about her affinity for Aaliyah:

My love and respect for Aaliyah as an artist / vocalist and Timbaland as a producer increased ten fold as I picked the track apart and understood how intricate and layered everything was. I chose to combine my favorite elements of the original track with my love of analogue production – a stripped down version, and an ode to Aaliyah, one of the greatest. The remix of my cover was something I wanted to write and produce that gave the original track new life, and also gave people a sense of power – it’s unapologetic.
