Danny Brown Announces New Album uknowhatimsayin? Executive Produced By Q-Tip

He never gets enough credit, but Q-Tip is one of the greatest rap producers who has ever lived. Q-Tip was the production mastermind behind a Tribe Called Quest, and that alone should vault him onto the list. And he’s also produced a ton of work for other artists over the years. He did “One Love” for Nas. He did “Give Up The Goods (Just Step)” and “Temperature’s Rising” for Mobb Deep, and he also mixed Mobb Deep’s classic album The Infamous and helped shepherd it at every stage. He co-produced Mariah Carey’s “Honey,” which is crazy to think about. And now he’s working on a new Danny Brown album, which seems like a good reason to get excited.

For a while now, Danny Brown, one of the greatest rappers currently working, has been working on a new album, the follow-up to 2016’s excellent Atrocity Exhibition. So we haven’t heard too much from Brown lately, though he did show up on “Unfiltered,” a song made for Open Mike Eagle’s sketch-comedy show The New Negroes, earlier this month. But now Brown has gone public with the album’s title — it’s called uknowhatimsayin? — and with the news that Q-Tip is the executive producer. Brown has a cover story in the new issue of High Snobiety, and he posted a photo of a page of it to Instagram this morning.

U Know What I’m Saying?

People got really excited about the idea that Q-Tip is producing the whole album. He’s not. Brown clarified that Q-Tip is the album’s executive producer and that it’ll also feature beats from regular collaborator Paul White and from noise-rap marauder JPEGMAFIA, which also seems like a reason to get excited.

We don’t know when uknowhatimsayin? will be out, but stay tuned.
