Julia Shapiro – “A Couple Highs” Video

Seattle mainstay Julia Shapiro has her hands in a lot of different projects — Chastity Belt, Childbirth, Who Is She? — and in a couple months she’ll be releasing her first-ever solo album, Perfect Version.

We heard “Natural” from it a few weeks ago and today she’s sharing another track, “A Couple Highs,” a beautiful bummer of a track that finds Shapiro wallowing but determined to continue on. “Though I tried, well, I tried,” she sighs on it. “A lot of lows and a couple highs.”

The track comes attached to a Claire Buss-directed music video that they say is an homage to Kelly Reichardt’s excellent film Wendy And Lucy, which stars Michelle Williams and a dog. In the “A Couple Highs” video, Shapiro wanders listlessly around Seattle searching for some greater meaning.
