The British music industry is ready to congratulate itself, yesterday releasing the list of nominations for this year's BRIT Awards. (And the performers list is a vertitable who's who of acts you love to be indifferent about, like Corrine Bailey Rae, Snow Patrol, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Take That, The Killers, Amy Winehouse -- and, more awesomely, Scissor Sisters and Oasis). Do we care? Not at first -- but after looking at the nominees, there's some stuff worth noting. Full list and thoughts after the jump.

So, The BRITs did a few things right: Thom getting props for best male solo, Lily Allen picking up a BRIT-leading 4 noms, recognizing the Guillemots live show, and best of all, the BRITs picking up the Grammy slack by giving Chan a nod for International Female Artist (in between a bunch of dancing divas!). But that International Album list shows a lack of, erm, imagination. And international breakthrough nominee Orson? Who the fuck is Orson?
