Destroyer – “Kaputt” Video

Yesterday I tweeted about people having a lot of sex to Kaputt in 2011. That’s because Dan Bejar’s excellent Malaparte-nodding, electro jazz-tinged ninth Destroyer album’s a smooth one. As you’ll see in the glossy Dawn Garcia-directed video for the title track, Bejar is well aware of the sexiness. (Along with the ambition, nerdy braininess, etc.) Chase girls and cocaine through the backrooms of the world:

The clip follows the lyrics straight to the ocean, so sing along:

Wasting your days
Chasing some girl’s alright.
Chasing cocaine
Through the backrooms of the world all night.
Wasting your days
Chasing some girl’s alright.
Chasing cocaine
Through the backrooms of the world all night.

Sounds, Smash Hits, Melody Maker, NME,
All sound like a dream to me.
All sound like a dream to me.
All sounds like a dream…
Sounds, Smash Hits, Melody Maker, NME,
All sound like a dream to me.
All sound like a dream to me.
All sounds like a dream…

Step out of your toga and into the fog,
You are a prince on the ocean…
(In a pinch, in the sky, in your eye)
Step out of your toga and into the ocean,
Look they got your prints on the fog…
(In a pinch, in the sky, in your eye)

Kaputt is out 1/25 via Merge. (The reemergence of “Bay Of Pigs” is basically worth the price of admission.) Don’t forget the “Archer On The Beach” 12?, which includes two songs not found on the record.
