The Weezer Cruise
Power pop’s answer to KISS have expanded the brand once again: The Weezer Cruise sets sail via Carnival’s Destiny cruise ship on 1/19 from Miami en route to Cozumel off the Gulf Coast of Mexico. The entire trip lasts from 1/19-23. If you decide to go, no worries, you won’t be trapped on a boat alone with Rivers Cuomo: They’ve invited along Dinosaur Jr. (+ J Mascis solo), Sebadoh (+ Lou Barlow solo), Gene Ween and Dave Dreiwitz, Wavves, the Antlers, Yuck, Free Energy, Boom Bip, Keepaway, Ozma, the Nervous Wreckords, the Knocks, Sleeper Agent, and Yacht Rock Revue. More info:
Weezer will perform on the outdoor Lido deck and in the inside theater. All of the bands will be performing in stages around the ship, festival style, so you can catch any or all of them during the entire trip to Cozumel and back …The “Destiny” is a fully functioning cruise ship and floating resort that features gourmet dining, 24-hour room service (free of charge whenever you want!), pools, hot tubs, a full-service casino, waterslide, world-class spa services and more.
You’ll also get a photo with the band and participate in an “exclusive Q&A on the Lido deck.” Here’s Cuomo’s pitch:
If you want to start pricing it out, you can head to theweezercruise.com and sign-up for a pre-sale. (The pre-sale ends 7/18 at 11:59PM EST. Folks who sign-up will be emailed booking info by 7/19.) And, speaking of close quarters, Weezer will be literally sharing stages with the Flaming Lips for some shows this month: The groups will crush together on 7/28 at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ and on 7/29 at the Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, NY. As P4K reports, “both bands will set up their equipment onstage next to each other and then trade off playing throughout the show. One band will play a few songs, and then the other will take over. Yeasayer will open both dates.” Take drugs before you go.
