James Blake, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey Up For Brit Awards

The Brit Awards are the UK’s annual equivalent to the Grammys, and our British friends have a way of making their award-nominations lists look just slightly cooler than ours. And this year’s list of nominees, which was just announced, is positively packed with indie-friendly names. James Blake, for instance, is up for British Male Solo Artist, while Florence & The Machine, Kate Bush, and Laura Marling all challenge Adele and Jessie J for British Female Solo Artist, and Anna Calvi and the Vaccines are both in the running for British Group. In the category of British Album Of The Year, Florence & The Machine’s Ceremonials and PJ Harvey’s Let England Shake are both nominated.

Bon Iver and Ryan Adams are up for International Male Solo Artist, while Feist and Björk are competing with glossier pop queens Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga for International Female Solo Artist, and Fleet Foxes and the Jay-Z/Kanye West duo are up for International Group. The list of nominees for International Breakthrough Group is a weird one indeed: Bon Iver, Aloe Blacc, Foster The People, Nicki Minaj, and, yup, Lana Del Rey. Meanwhile, Blur will win a special Outstanding Contribution To Music award.

The ceremony goes down 2/21 at London’s O2 Arena. Check out the full list of nominees below.
