This is the news I have been waiting on for months: M.I.A.’s fourth studio album Matangi has an official release date and it is 11/5. Interscope, after allegedly shelving the album for being “too positive,” unveiled the release date today after M.I.A. threatened to leak it herself, tweeting, “If interscope takes longer i can always leak this next week and make a new one by the time they are ready.” Her taunt clearly worked, although, after the trailer for her collaborative documentary with filmmaker Steven Loveridge was released via his Tumblr last month, it’s no surprise that her label acted posthaste to get her a release date.

  1. What kind of reason is “too positive” to shelf an album?

    Christ record labels are bullshit.
