Coldplay @ iTunes Festival At SXSW 2014

Last night the celebrification of SXSW continued with the arrival of the iTunes Festival and its first headliner, those promising up-and-comers Coldplay. Chris Martin and company played an 11-song set at Austin’s Moody Theater that featured the live debut of four songs from the upcoming Ghost Stories. Two of them were songs we hadn’t heard yet in any form, a pair of moody slow jams called “Always In My Head” and “Another’s Arms.” The recently released “Magic” and “Midnight” got their first live airings too. The band also played their The Hunger Games: Catching Fire theme “Atlas.”

“Always In My Head”
“Charlie Brown”
“Another’s Arms”
“Viva La Vida”
“Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall”
“Fix You”

Ghost Stories is out 5/19 via Parlophone, and judging from all these advance tracks, it’s going to be the most low-key Coldplay album since Parachutes.

  1. Is this the first Coldplay show ever where they didn’t play “Yellow”?

  2. Sweet Jesus, this album’s looking slow. I like “Magic” and “Always In My Head” might be alright, but this looks like a slow album so far. Maybe they’re trying to hard to make the point “THIS ISN’T MYLO XYLOTO!”

  3. Another’s Arms is a cool track.

  4. The female vocal (?) on Another’s Arms is interesting. I’d like to hear a studio version of that. Otherwise unremarkable.

  5. I’ve gotten into Magic now, but still don’t know what to think of Midnight. And now we’re getting a 9 slow-rock songs type of album?

Hell, I’m game if they are!
