Mirah’s upcoming Changing Light has been described as her “breakup album.” But not all breakups are the same, and within the bitter “Oxen Hope” and the redemptive closer “Radiomind” we’ve heard quite a lot of musical and emotional range. Mirah’s fierce new single, “Goat Shepherd,” comes before “Radiomind” in terms of emotional chronology and sequencing, but when it comes to sound this might be her most adventurous yet. After building a groove over clattering percussion the song dies out entirely, only to get jolted back to life with organs, cooing vocals, and melodies all rushing at you like a shot of adrenaline.
