Wish I Was Here soundtrack

James Mercer probably owes about 30% of the money in his checking account to the shoutout that Natalie Portman gave to the Shins in Garden State lo those many years ago. So it’s not a surprise that the Shins have contributed a new song to the soundtrack of Wish I Was Here, the second film from Garden State writer/director/star Zach Braff. We heard a chunk of “So Now What,” the Shins’ contribution, in the terrible, terrible trailer for Wish I Was Here, but now the whole song is online. It’s a soft, dreamy, sweeping thing that will not offend anyone’s sensibilities. Listen to it below.

The Wish I Was Here soundtrack is out 7/15 on Columbia.

  1. I bet you anything So Now What? is the last line of the movie.

SNACK BRAFF: DAD DIED BUT I HAVE NOW LEARNED THAT EVERY BOWL HAS A RAINBOW
DAUGHTER OF SNACK: So now what?

    * the Bright Eyes song :( starts playing *

    THE END

  2. Jesus, everyone has loved to hate on this movie ever since the thing was announced. I love Garden State, though, and I love Scrubs, and I love the Shins, and I honestly saw nothing wrong with the trailer.

  3. The song’s good but the trailer is bad and I can’t separate the two in my mind.
