One of the most intriguing things about ILoveMakonnen, the wobbly and emotive Atlanta sing-rapper who's well on his way to becoming a star, is his fascination with, and connection to, DIY indie rock. Last year, for instance, we posted "Running Away," a song that Makonnen recorded with the teenage Georgia rock band Sea Ghost. And Makonnen also counts himself as a member of Phantom Posse, a loosely knit Brooklyn-centered DIY collective that also includes members of groups like Private Life and Nineteen. Phantom Posse, led by a guy who calls himself Nicholas Nicholas, just shared their woozy, guitar-spangled debut album Home, and it features Makonnen on a handful of tracks.
