Been listening to the Infadels’ We Are Not The Infidels after hearing a cut on Steve Lamacq‘s show. He called them “one part Prodigy, one part Gang Of Four,” but don’t that let turn you off. XFM‘s dubbed them “London’s answer to LCD Soundsystem.” Either way, the following track’s certainly as addictive as all the other rowdy, electro-pop clogging your iPod.

The Infadels – “Girl That Speaks No Words” (MP3 Link Expired)

I can only assume these guys are garnering massive buzz across the pond. Maybe our UK readers can tell to what extent NME is fawning over them.

If you enjoy “Girl That Speaks No Words,” you’ll dig the three other album tracks streaming at MySpace. If not, try the mellow b-side “One Of These Days.” (Anyone got MP3?)

Domestic LP release and stateside tour sure to come.

Ther’es also the entire album streaming on the Dutch site 3voor12:

    http://3voor12.vpro.nl/3voor12/luisterpaal/luisterpaalalbum.shtml?10617791+26338481

Some songs sound really great, but it sounds like there’s a decent amount of filler. I just had one listen, though.

  2. I forgot about that crazy Dutch site! Streaming the entire Wrens’ “Meadowlands”:

    Bizarre.

Who sings the theme song to The Office?

  4. adam  |   Posted on Jan 27th, 2006

This reminds me a lot of Shoot Speed Kill Light by Primal Scream.

  5. > Who sings the theme song to The Office?

I assume you mean the Brit one? Stereophonics.

  6. I emailed you a live infadels track scott

  7. Thanks Mike. Got it.

  8. Stereophonics do a version of the song but it’s not the one on the Office. The exhaustive explanation and a DL of the song is here:

  9. Streaming! how 1990s!

UK bands need to get their heads around the whole “freely downloadable mp3s on your website = free buzz” concept… it’s really quite tricky to hear indie stuff from that side of the pond otherwise.

and no, that shitty myspace thing doesn’t count. damn thing never works on my computer.

this group is awful. i’ll be sure to watch out for this crap so i can avoid it all costs.

  11. Justin: are you being sarcastic? Arctic Monkeys anyone? Their entire hype machine started from them posting all their songs as freely downloadable mp3s.

    Maybe it’s just friday afternoon.

paul weller sings the british office theme song.

  13. Paul Weller nor the Stereophonics sang the version that appears on the Office. I’m pretty sure its in the credits as some obscure guy but I can’t remember who.
The Infadels album got slated in NME this week and apart from the song you have posted all the stuff I’ve heard is irritating and completely uninspiring. Not quite sure why Steve Lamaq went for it as I usually agree with everything he says but this is one band I do not think will make it. If you like the idea of it dance/punk, I’d much prefer iForward, Russia! who are incredible or even someone like the Rakes (check my blog for posts by both if you gt a chance)

I’ve seen the Infadels twice now, and they’re actually one of the most fun and exciting bands around. Sure, they’re not doing anything grossly new BUT they keep the energy up for the entire show and get EVERYONE dancing and smiling. Plus, they bang rubbish bins and wave giant smiley faces around :) Yes, the NME doesn’t like them very much. Gave their album 5 out of 10 when they reviewed it. But, whatever. They’re cool.

  15. Knowing the NME nowadays it’s probably because they didn’t have the right hair cut.

Here endeth this cliched NME bash.

  16. Yeah Eddie TM on XFM may be gushing over them, but Nooooo they are awful!
