After launching his DJ mix series, Beck’s back on The Velvet Underground & Nico tip. As you likely recall, one of the new sections on his overhauled website involves he and his friends going into the studio and covering entire albums, then posting a song a week from the session. He’s launching it with VU. Folks were more enthusiastic about “Sunday Morning” than “I’m Waiting For The Man,” so “Femme Fatale” feels like a crucial moment. Right, a crucial moment for Beck providing free covers on his website.
Next time, we get Beck’s thoughts on S&M via “Venus in Furs.” Finally.

this is a good cover, i was a little weary of the drums at first, but i think it brought the song together nicely
It’s pretty ambitious to record a cover of this entire record, really. I really dig what he did with “Sunday Morning.” “I’m Waiting For the Man” fell flat for me. This is good, although I’m probably biased because the VU version is one of my favorite songs ever.
these covers are amazing, the mixes on the website are pretty cool too
Like this one a lot better than ‘Waiting For My Man’. Interested to see what they do with ‘Venus in Furs’. Kind of sad this is the first time since like 2005 I have been remotely interested in anything Beck related. I used to worship him in the 90′s and early 00′s.
Boy can Beck be a hipster doofus. But this is awesome. Both Sunday Morning and Femme Fatale fit Beck well. Waiting for My Man really needs a smack addict to make it work, so it’s probably a good thing Beck’s version just doesn’t work. Funny that Nico’s voice was lower than Beck’s.
she’s just singing in a lower register in her voice than he in his……anyways, this is the best cover he’s done so far.
The year the VU did it was part of why it was so good…I wonder Beck likes Merriweather…
I love Beck but does anyone else feel like this is just something for him to do while he goes through a creative lull? He’s doing a great job on these covers but who gives a shit. I would much rather hear Beck have something new to say then cover classic albums.
