In the pre-SXSW installment of the Outsiders, I posted "Invisible" by Grouper, aka Liz Harris. The song came from her then unreleased Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill, which finally arrived yesterday and is a stunner. Harris's past collections -- Way Their Crept and Wide -- were noisier than this new one and she's upped her vocals in the mix. You might think a bit of fellow Oregon resident (and shop owner) Valet, but with bedroom-recorded Cocteau Twins or Dead Can Dance atmospherics, less acid-dripped psychedelics. Or, as a wise commenter noted when the last song went up, she's doing "Mazzy Noise." Just less noise this time.

You can stream the title track, among others, at her MySpace. And, because you likely can't read the text on the envelope Liz is holding it has "Acid Mother's Temple" crossed out and "Grouper" written beneath it. If they get the same number of drink tickets, she really scored.
Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill is out via Type.
