Townes Van Zandt's almighty ballad "If I Needed You" is one of those near-perfect songs that it's just about impossible to effectively cover, even if that hasn't stopped every subway-platform troubadour worth her acoustic guitar case from trying. And now folk-pop big dog Andrew Bird has tried his hand at it, recording a pretty violin-soaked version of the song for Hands Of Glory, a forthcoming companion piece to his 2012 album Break It Yourself.
