Johnny Marr Plays Fallon, Plans Autobiography, Joins Spider-Man 2 Supergroup With Pharrell

Johnny Marr’s headlining tour hits NY this weekend, and in advance of the concert he returned to Late Night With Jimmy Fallon yesterday to perform The Messenger’s “Generate! Generate!” along with Smiths classic “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.” But before you watch those performances, some news on the guitarist’s forthcoming autobiography and Spider-Man 2 score…

Brooklyn Vegan recently asked Marr if, like his former bandmate Morrissey, he’d be writing a book about his life. Marr’s response:

There is gonna be one, yeah. I’ve had so many offers and so many people advising me that my story is worth it, but I understand it’s something that I have to do. I’ll do it in the next couple of years. I’m into from the stance that I want it to be so thorough that I don’t make a record or tour whilst I was doing it. It is gonna happen, and I’ve already made an agreement with a publisher for it, so I will get it done.

Marr will also be scoring The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in his new supergroup with Hans Zimmer, Pharrell, Michael Einziger (Incubus), and Dave Stewart (Eurythmics). That’s a photo (via @MarcW) of Zimmer, Pharrell, Marr, and Einziger above.

Now here are those Fallon clips:

The Messenger is out on Sire/ADA.

UPDATE: Smiths bassist Andy Rourke ended up joining Marr (again) at Webster Hall for “How Soon Is Now?” Watch it below:
