Over the weekend, the Radiohead guitarist and Paul Thomas Anderson film-score composer Jonny Greenwood performed at London's Wapping Hydraulic Power Station, a 124-year-old facility built to power machinery across London. It's easy to imagine that the idea of old, clanking, outmoded technology helped spark "Loop," the piece of music he debuted there. Performing with the London Contemporary Orchestra, Greenwood played a sputtering, off-kilter guitar figure that repeated over and over, with slight variations, while the various other musicians added to the sense of play.
