To celebrate their 16th birthday, Carpark Records will press a limited-edition 12″ compilation of unreleased tracks by members of their roster. The picture disc is basketball-themed, so all 9 tracks and 19 locked grooves will allude to the sport in some way. Speedy Ortiz included a demo version of “Basketball” off of their prodigious Sports EP, which was originally released by Exploding In Sound in 2012 before the Boston-based band was picked up by Carpark with whom they released Major Arcana. In addition, Sadie Dupuis has contributed a rendition of the theme from the film The Babadook. The compilation also features music from Cloud Nothings’ Jayson Gerycz, whom I lauded as my favorite drummer of 2014 on our 50 Best Albums entry for Here And Nowhere Else, saying, “Give me a recording of Cloud Nothings’ Jayson Gerycz drumming along to a click-track, and I could listen to it for hours, bare-boned.” “Dribble Dribble” might just be the display that I’ve been waiting for. Toro Y Moi, Skylar Spencer (formerly Saint Pepsi), Dan Deacon, TEEN, and Memory Tapes also contributed alongside a handful of others. Only 600 copies of the 12″ will be sold, and all proceeds go to Little Kids Rock, an organization that donates musical instruments and curricular resources to public schools. Skylar Spence sampled Allen Iverson on his contribution, “Practice.” Listen to it below.
