In 2006, Ze Frank had a daily web series that was basically the whole-cloth invention of vlogging as well as the first serious attempt at creating genuinely original content intended specifically for the medium of the Internet. (Personally, I never really watched it. I saw it a few times, and I knew who he was, and I appreciated what he was doing, but I just had other stuff going on. On a similar note, I don't really watch the people he influenced who are still doing similar stuff, so maybe it's just not for me. Me me me.) The Show with zefrank ended one year after it started, and since then Ze Frank has gone on to make one-off web-based projects, do some consulting, probably present a few Webbys or what have you, but otherwise been somewhat off the radar. Recently, he took to Kickstarter and announced that if the funding was provided, he would do a new iteration of his webshow. He asked for $50,000 and people donated $150,000, so clearly the demand is there. Good for him! (Speaking of Kickstarter, did you guys see this on TheDailyWhat yesterday? It looks great. Help it.) And so, now Ze Frank has started a new web show that will be produced three times a week for one year. He posted the first "episode" last night, and regardless of if you used to like him and are excited that he's back, or if you used to not like him and are not excited that he's back, or if you don't know him, I actually think this particular episode in which he discusses all of the fears and concerns that have been raised in retreading not old exactly but similar territory is a good video worth watching. It has lots of hopeful things to say about forgiving yourself and trying things because things are worth trying and enjoying work for work's sake and cetra.

This is basically what motivational speakers do, but I think we all still believe that motivational speakers are stupid assholes exploiting simple-minded suckers so don't tell anyone. You can subscribe to Ze Frank's new A Show here if you want. Let's paint, exercise, and everything else.
