Back in January, Ben Folds teased his new collaborative album with the NYC classical sextet yMusic, and a few weeks ago he announced that album, So There, will be out in September. He shared “Capable Of Anything” as an official track, but during his Bonnaroo set also played another new track called “Phone In The Pool.” Fun fact: Around 0:40 in this video, his beer falls off the piano in a move that somewhat mimics the song title, no? That moment is also one of my favorite lyrics from the track, and it’s such a Ben Folds observation: “What’s been good for the music hasn’t always been good for the life.” What a great phrase to sum up how the drama we want from our art isn’t usually the drama we want in our lives. Watch the performance below.
So There is out 9/11 via New West Records.
