Prince – “Nothing Compares 2 U (DJDS Club Mix)”

While Prince is busy releasing albums no one can/will listen to exclusively via Tidal, we are lucky enough to still be able to celebrate his many accomplishments, including “Nothing Compares 2 U,” the Sinéad O’Connor-via-the Family ’90s hit that ranks among his best. DJDS — the dance duo made up of Jerome LOL and Samo Sound Boy — seem to agree because they’ve just released a starry club remix of the track, which was originally featured in a mix for Resident Advisor and spruced up for release on its own. The two of them remix a live version of the track that Prince performed in 1993. Listen via Spin below.

Here’s what Jerome LOL had to say about the mix in a Facebook post:

Last year, Sam and I made an edit of Prince’s live version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” for our Resident Advisor mix and for our live shows. I was originally unaware that Prince had anything to do with the song, but Sam taught me its interesting history. Prince wrote and composed the song for one of his side projects, The Family. The song was released on their first and only album in 1985. Sinead O’Connor, then, made the song ubiquitous with her cover in 1990. Our edit was of a live version that Prince performed in 1993. We decided to go back to the edit and create a finished version that we wanted to share with you for the holidays as a token of our appreciation. We hope you enjoy and happy holidays.

DJDS’ new album, Stand Up And Speak is out 1/29 via Loma Vista/Body High. They also recently did a dope remix of Adele’s “Hello.”
