Deerhoof – “Hi” (Xiu Xiu Cover In The Style Of White Reaper)

Polyvinyl, the independent record label based out of Champaign, Illinois, has announced Polyvinyl Plays Polyvinyl, a compilation commemorating 20 years in business. The album features current or former Polyvinyl artists covering each other; for instance, below you can hear noise-pop darlings Deerhoof covering “Hi” from Xiu Xiu’s 2012 release Always. The San Franciscan four-piece tears through “Hi” with an upbeat abandon, replacing the warbly feel of Xiu Xiu’s original number with their own triumphant, punk rock flavor (hence the title reference to yet another Polyvinyl band, White Reaper). Check it out below.
