Pharrell Williams has had good luck with movie soundtracks; word to Despicable Me 2. And he's now contributed a pair of new songs to the soundtrack of Hidden Figures, a forthcoming drama about three African American women who did crucial behind-the-scenes work in some historic NASA missions. "Runnin'" is almost a Neptunes approximation of an old-timey swing song, complete with trumpet solo. And it features Pharrell, in full falsetto mode, remembering his Virginia childhood. It should sound awkward, but Pharrell sells it. "Surrender" is similar in that it's Neptune-ish big band. Check them out below.
