In a bizarre and hotly disputed incident two weeks ago, Russell Crowe physically removed Azealia Banks from a party in his hotel suite. Banks, there as a guest of Crowe’s friend RZA, had allegedly threatened another woman at the party when Crowe picked her up and took her out. Banks has told her version of the story, saying that she wasn’t threatening anyone and that Crowe spat on her, choked her, and called her the N-word. Meanwhile, RZA has also told his version, saying that Banks was behaving erratically and denying that Crowe used a slur against her. And as Pitchfork points out, a tearful Banks appeared on last night’s episode of Access Hollywood, further describing the events of the party, as she saw it.
Talking to Access Hollywood, Banks broke down when talking about the idea that she would make the story up: “Every time something like this happens, I’m always, like, being blamed for like wanting this kind of attention. Like, who fucking wants to tell someone they got spat on? That’s humiliating. I’m just really, really humiliated.”
She also claims that Crowe mocked her career and that the entire party reacted with horror when she fired back at him. And when asked why Crowe reacted to her the way he did, Banks said, “Who knows? Maybe it was the moonshine? Maybe it was the rejection? Maybe it was the jokes?” Banks has filed a police report, and on Access Hollywood, she cast doubt on the hotel’s account that there were no surveillance cameras in the hallway.
