We have officially reached the point where Metallica, the kings of '80s thrash, have become adorable. Tomorrow, Metallica will release their proudly old-school new album Hardwired... To Self Destruct. And on last night's episode of The Tonight Show, Metallica became the latest musicians to play a song on kids' classroom instruments. Along with Jimmy Fallon and the Roots, the members of Metallica all crowded around a camera to do a cacophonous, objectively awful version of their 1991 standby "Enter Sandman." Kirk Hammett played a melodica, and all the members of the Roots wore Metallica shirts. It was cute. Their version of the song sadly cut off before the guitar solo; I was wondering how they were going to handle that. Watch the performance below.
