Back in June, Interpol announced their upcoming full-length Marauder with an elaborate performance art press conference in Mexico City. And earlier this month, we sat down with frontman Paul Banks to talk about the band’s new sound, new producer (none other than Dave Fridmann), and Banks’ evolving lyrical style. Today they’re sharing “Number 10″ — and yeah, it is the 10th song on the tracklist.
The new single opens with a melodic, surfing loop. It moves with an anxious tension, yet still punches with the same bounding volume and aggression of lead single “The Rover.” The lyrics tell the story of a secret (but unconsummated) office romance between Ella, a commanding boss, and her yearning employee. It’s a galavanting tale with a lot of pent-up desire. Listen to “Number 10″ below.
Marauder is out 8/24 on Matador.
