Charly Bliss' impressive full-length debut, Guppy, was among our top 10 favorite albums of 2017. It was a sugary, '90s-indebted introduction to the New York band. Today, their pop-tinged alt-rock gets a little less bubblegum with on their new single, "Heaven."
Hendricks' squeals and hooky guitars punctuated Guppy. On "Heaven," a murky bassline plays beneath her lilting, bittersweet vocals. Their lyrics remain a pointed mix of simple reflection — "I’m up here / I’m so high / I feel everything / I feel nice" — and playful images — "Our eyes like quarters / Sweet spine." She's soaking up a perfect moment until her singing shifts to speaking, riffs sharpen, and her daydream reaches toward the future: "I’m gonna buy a house and fill it / With daughters and daughters and daughters and daughters."
