Watch Adrianne Lenker Play A Lovely Tiny Desk Concert In A Joshua Tree Trailer

Big Thief are one of the great live bands currently working in the indie rock sphere. And when she plays on her own, Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker can be pretty amazing, as well. Last month, Lenker released songs and instrumentals, two lovely companion-piece solo albums that she recorded in a remote one-room cabin. Today, we get to see her play a bunch of the songs from songs in a different kind of one-room residence.

Lenker has recorded a remote Tiny Desk Concert for the long-running NPR video series, and she’s done it from a camper trailer parked in Joshua Tree National Park. When Perfume Genius taped a Kimmel performance at Joshua Tree a few weeks ago, they did it while standing amidst desert boulders at sunset. But Lenker is just sitting by herself in her trailer, and you can’t really tell where she is unless you’re really good at recognizing desert sunlight as it shines through a window.

Still, maybe some desert seeped into Lenker’s peformance. In the video, Lenker plays five of her songs, including “anything” and “dragon eyes,” fully solo-acoustic. She brings the same out-of-body intensity that she has when she’s with Big Thief, and that’s really something to see. Also, when she’s on her own, you can really get a sense of what an amazing guitarist she is. Watch the performance below.

songs and instrumentals are out now on 4AD.
