Jimmy Kimmel Reducing Music Performances To Twice A Week: Report

Stephen Colbert's Late Show will end in May. Late Night With Seth Meyers barely ever booked musical guests even before the show's house band was laid off in 2024, and now it never does. Today, we learn that Jimmy Kimmel Live! plans to reduce its number of musical guests. At this point, there are precious few places for musicians to perform on TV. Maybe we'll have to start posting Tiny Desk Concerts instead.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel music producer Jim Pitt told the show's staff about the show's live-music reduction in recent weeks. No reason has been given for the change, though it can't be cheap to maintain the show's outdoor festival stage. Historically, most Kimmel episodes have had musical guests, but now they'll reportedly limit those guests to two shows per week. That leaves Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show as the last late-night show that regularly features musical guests. God help us all.

As it happens, last night's Kimmel episode featured a performance from rootsy singer-songwriter Molly Tuttle. I don't think we'd post that video under normal circumstances, but what the hell, might as well enjoy these things while we can.
