Namasenda – “Cola”

A legendary popstar once captured the innate thirst of desire with the line, singing in squabbled Auto-Tune: "I just want to drink you up." On her latest single "Cola," Swedish pop auteur Namasenda continues to quench our parchedness and lust. "Cola" is Namasenda's first single of the year. It follows her 2021's debut album Unlimited Ammo, which was released on PC Music, and 2023's Ambrosia EP.

"Sticky like a cola my favorite soda you, yeah you," she sings over a fast-paced dribbling melody. Her voice is as sugary as a root beer float, effervescent but also smooth. It glides over booming, syncopated drums. It's fun and propulsive. The chirpy production makes use of the refreshing burst of a pop can tab, and there's also a nod to Savage Garden's peculiar hit "I Want You," which has the lyric: "Sweet like a chic-a-cherry cola." Namasenda flips the reference to the carbonated anomaly, brightly singing: "Fizzy bubbly like a chick a cherry cola." Whatever it means, "Cola" is sticky, good fun.
