Earlier this month, the endlessly inventive underground rapper/producer Quelle Chris released Happy Place, a sample-heavy EP that he posted only on YouTube, asking for donations in return. it was Quelle Chris' first release since 2024's Death Tape 2: We Gon' Need Each Other, the second entry in his series of collaborations with the New Orleans rapper Cavalier. Now, Cavalier and Quelle Chris have a new song together, and it also features their peers Navy Blue and Denmark Vessey.
On the new song "Holding On," all four rappers get extremely vulnerable over a warped, hazy track. It's the rare posse cut about trying to keep your shit together. On Instagram Cavalier says that the song is "about the quiet work of staying present — through grief, fatherhood, memory, and the weight of becoming someone new while carrying everything you’ve been."
