Kelsey Lu Announces New Album So Help Me God: Hear “Running To Pain”

The LA-based artist Kelsey Lu, a classically trained cellist with a tremendous sense of vision, released her debut album Blood back in 2019. Since then, she's scored a couple of films and collaborated with people like Yves Tumor, Mykki Blanco, and Jamie xx. Now, she's signed with Dirty Hit, and her new album So Help Me God is coming in June. It looks like it'll be a big deal.

Kelsey Lu co-produced So Help Me God with Jack Antonoff and Yves Rothman, and Oli Jacobs mixed it. Kim Gordon, Kamasi Washington, and Sampha make appearances. In a press release, Lu says that the album was "built slowly and intentionally across seven years of transformation." Lead single "Running To Pain" is a gorgeously graceful piece of synthy art-pop that reminds me of prime Bat For Lashes, and I mean that as a huge compliment.

Previously, Kelsey Lu scored the BAFTA-winning 2023 drama Earth Mama, and now Earth Mama director Savanah Leaf has made the video for "Running To Pain." She shot the clip on the Spanish volcanic island of Lanzarote, and it features Lu alongside French actress Garance Marillier, star of Raw and Titane. Below, check out the "Running To Pain" clip, the So Help Me God tracklist, and the dates for Lu's upcoming engagements at the Blue Note clubs in New York and LA.
