Since dropping debut album I'll be here last year, Vines, aka composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Cassie Wieland, has released a one-off single and a Christmas traditional. Today she's back with news of a fun project, an EP called Covers I coming in May.
The tracklist kicks off with "Fourth Of July" from Sufjan Stevens' Carrie & Lowell and also includes Frank Ocean's Blonde ballad "White Ferrari," and let me tell you, those two ghostly albums are instructive for understanding the faintly glowing choral ambient sound Wieland has developed for herself. She's also covering Wheatus' "Teenage Dirtbag" with Wheatus, like Summer Walker interpolating Usher with Usher. Take that, Phoebe Bridgers.
Today we get to hear the EP's closing track, a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Silver Springs" that casts Wieland in the role of Stevie Nicks and Helado Negro as Lindsey Buckingham. It sounds a lot more like a Vines song than a Fleetwood Mac song, so I guess she put her imprint on it. Listen below and imagine her giving Roberto Carlos Lange the death stare.
