Well, this has all been very stupid. Over the weekend Chappell Roan had to clarify that she doesn't hate children after Brazilian-Italian football star Jorginho accused her security guard of making his 11-year-old daughter cry after she recognized the singer at a hotel during breakfast. In her response, the 28-year-old star said it wasn't her security guard, and now the security guard who approached the child confirmed that he was not a part of Roan's team.
"I do not normally address online rumors, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation," Pascal Duvier wrote on Instagram, continuing:
I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st. I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan. The actions I took were not on behalf of Chappell Roan, her personal security team, her management, or any other individuals. I made a judgment call based on information we obtained from the hotel, events I had witnessed in the days prior and the heightened overall security risk of our location. My sole interaction with the mother was calm and with good intentions, and the outcome of the encounter is regretful.
Meanwhile, online users are also accusing Roan of secretly coming from money and lying about growing up in a trailer park. Jameela Jamil stuck up for Roan on Instagram, writing:
I just wanna say I agree with all the chapell roan hate. She is pro Palestine. Pro women. Pro asking for basic respect in the industry. She left a huge mgmt firm publicly because the owner was in the Epstein files. She's pro trans. She's gay. She's anti establishment. She de-centers men in all of her rhetoric and empowers millions of young people. She calls out her own industry for neglecting the health of young artists. None of this media fueled hate is a whipped up smear campaign, exaggerating her every move, or blaming her for the actions of people in her team in order to make an example of a woman who set a few minor boundaries for herself for her own mental health as a fragile person.
This is not to send a warning to other women to not try being outspoken and disobedient. Women are not supposed to have boundaries ever. We are just supposed to smile.
We don’t wish to spread personal details about Chappell’s life, but the public smear campaign occurring is too overwhelming to not highlight a few key things:
