Bleachers Share “the van,” Jack Antonoff Covers Hayley Williams

Alex Lockett

Breakbeats in a Bleachers song? That's what I think I'm hearing at the outset of "the van," the latest from Jack Antonoff's band's forthcoming everyone for ten minutes. The grandiose orchestral sample, the killer repeating drum fill — it's the closest to a rap song I've heard from Antonoff, even if the end result is a lot dreamier than the description implies. (Yes, the guy has worked on actual rap songs for other artists.)

"the van" is a story-song about a kid who "just didn't want to be lonely," and the lyrics mention how people in New Jersey never learn how to pump gas. Partway through, the harmonica arrives, further elevating the proceedings. Listen below.

Antonoff also dropped by BBC Radio 2 to cover Hayley Williams' "Love Me Different" and that's out today too. Bleachers backed the Paramore singer for that Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party cut at Rolling Stone’s Musicians On Musicians event and Antonoff's Ally Coalition Talent Show last year.
