The Strokes Announce New Album Reality Awaits

It's somehow been six years since the Strokes released their "new" album, the Grammy-winning The New Abnormal, and the band has been announced for a zillion festivals this year, including an appearance at Coachella this Saturday. So perhaps it was obvious a new LP was on the way. Today they've confirmed it.

A short trailer posted to the band's social media accounts reveals that their new album Reality Awaits will be out this summer. No further information is provided, but the 13-second video features a retro sports car, a slippery plastic Strokes groove, and the tagline, "In The Flesh, It's Even Sexier." It’s a reference to a Jaguar XJS ad from 1975.

Given that frontman Julian Casablancas recently said he no longer speaks to guitarist Nick Valensi, I wonder how much the adults were talking during the making of this one.

Watch the trailer below.

UPDATE: Last week the band posted a link to sign up for marketing texts and promised subscribers that they’d try to “send something” to those who provided a mailing address. That ended up being a cassette with a new song called “Going Shopping,” and the audio has now made its way online.
