Today marks exactly two years since Sabrina Carpenter's rise into main-girl pop stardom with "Espresso." Before that song, the idea of her headlining Coachella would've been ridiculous, but now it's a given. She did just that last night, and her Hollywood-themed performance included appearances from various actors, plus several Man's Best Friend live debuts.
Carpenter's "Sabrinawood" set began with a cinematic intro that featured Sam Elliott. Before the third act there was a long monologue from Susan Sarandon in which Corey Fogelmanis also made an appearance. Will Ferrell appeared as a technician fixing an electrical problem before the final act. “These guys didn’t want to do the tech run-through,” he said. “Waste of my day. I wanted to work Stagecoach.” Samuel L. Jackson also contributed a voice cameo, and there were references to Alfred Hitchcock, The Wizard Of Oz, and Snakes On A Plane.
Carpenter gave live debuts to the Man's Best Friend tracks "When Did You Get Hot?" "We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night," "Such A Funny Way," and "Sugar Talking."
There was also a moment of controversy when an audience member performed a zaghrouta — a high-pitched sound expressing celebration in Arab cultures — and the singer mistook it for a yodel, saying, "I don't like it." The interaction seems to have been edited out of the Coachella livestream replay. See videos from the set below.
