The ATX TV Festival is going down in Austin this weekend, and last night had a reunion of the fictitious Friday Night Lights band Crucifictorious for the show's 20th anniversary. Jesse Plemons and Stephanie Hunt used the opportunity to cover Daniel Johnston.
"I think this is a song that Crucifictorious would cover," Hunt said about the 1990 track "Devil Town," adding that it's "one of the best songs ever." Bright Eyes also covered it for their Noise Floor (Rarities: 1998-2005) compilation in 2006.
At the event, original showrunner Jason Katims and actor Scott Porter offered updates on the reboot, which is coming to Peacock after the streaming service outbid Netflix for the rights. Katims said (per Chron):
The book that Buzz Bissinger wrote is one of the [greatest pieces of] longform journalism, the movie was unbelievable, and I thought we all made a good show. And so we're not gonna do anything until the point that we feel like we do a show that's going to be able to live up to that legacy, and there's no reason to do it until that happens.
This wasn't Crucifictorious' first time reuniting, but watch them cover Daniel Johnston below.
BREAKING: Crucifictorious has withdrawn from the Freedom 250 Celebration.
