Earlier this month, Rico Nasty and Kenneth Blume, who will always be Kenny Beats in our hearts, teamed up for the brisk single "Rituals." It's so great, we named it one of the best tracks from that week. It feels me with great joy that, officially, Rico Nasty and Blume have another album on the way, titled RX, out in just three weeks. Despite the name pivot, there should be no shortage of "Kennyyyyyyy!" unless Rico has amended her ad-lib, which I would still love to witness if true.
The new album is announced today with the release of "Cupcake." There's something iridescent about the new single. She raps over cascading neon melodies, trickling percussion, and a condensed bass.
According to a press release, RX was put together while Rico Nasty was filming her acting debut for Margot Got Money Troubles, the AppleTV+ series created by David E. Kelley based on the 2024 novel by Rufi Thorpe, and during her 2025 fall tour. She also shared about reconnecting with Kennyyyyyyy!, saying:
I missed someone that was honest with me. And I missed someone who knew me back then, before I had any success. I felt like if I’m going to get back to doing me, I should go back to someone who can be real with me, somebody who’s not too serious or draining.
Blume also shared a statement:
From the day we met, no one has made me laugh harder or pushed me further out of my comfort zone. RX feels like homecoming. This project is a reminder of where she came from, what made us all fans; and a scary look at how much better she KEEPS getting.
