Last week, Boy George released "We Will Dance Again," a reggae song that he made in support of Israel's campaign of genocide. The song itself denies the term "genocide," and Boy George claims that he made it with AI. Fucking gross! As you might imagine, the backlash was swift. Boy George was removed from his role in the current London Palladium production of Jesus Christ Superstar, and he says that he fired Tony Pontius as manager of his Boy George Presents label, after Pontius refused to release the track. Over the weekend, the '80s pop star uploaded it to Bandcamp instead. Now, Bandcamp has removed "We Will Dance Again" and deactivated the account.
Bandcamp hasn't made a statement about the removal of "We Will Dance Again." Presumably, it has something to do with the platform's no-AI music policy. In any case, the "We Will Dance Again" link is dead now. In an Instagram video captioned "What a bunch of c^^^s!.," Boy George says that the decision is "so disappointing." There's plenty of disappointment to go around here.
UPDATE: Andrew Frelon — the guy who previously claimed to be the spokesman for the AI band Velvet Sundown — claims he reported Boy George's account to Bandcamp, which allegedly confirmed the track violated its terms of use:
